Even the Pacific remains vulnerable, as Honolulu and San Francisco face visibility issues. Consequently, travel remains unpredictable for anyone flying today. Check your airline app immediately to see if your carrier is among those that cancel or delay service. Patience is essential as the industry recovers.

The disruption data of US reveals a tale of two coasts. In the Northeast, airports are digging out from recent winter weather, while the West Coast and Florida are battling high traffic volumes and localized visibility issues.

Boston Logan International (BOS) remains the hardest-hit major hub with 18 cancellations and 112 delays. The impact is even more severe at regional New England transit points; Nantucket Memorial (ACK) reported 14 cancellations, followed closely by Martha’s Vineyard (MVY) with 11 and Barnstable Municipal (HYA) with 10. In the New York metropolitan area, Newark Liberty (EWR) and John F. Kennedy International (JFK) are struggling with a staggering combined total of 207 delays, despite keeping cancellations in the single digits.

On the West Coast, San Francisco (SFO) is dealing with a ground delay advisory due to low cloud ceilings, resulting in 100 delays. Meanwhile, mountainous regions are seeing significant impacts; Aspen (ASE) is reporting increasing arrival delays due to wind, and Steamboat Springs (HDN) is under a ground delay due to sheer airport volume.

Further south, Florida’s major gateways are hitting capacity limits. Miami International (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) are both reporting departure delays due to traffic management initiatives and high volume, with MIA seeing 131 delays and FLL seeing 32.

If you are one of the thousands caught in today’s 2,517 delays, here is how to navigate the current situation:

The state of U.S. air travel today reflects a system that is functional but severely overextended. While the low number of 115 cancellations is an optimistic sign that airlines have regained control over their schedules, the 2,517 delays serve as a stark reminder of how fragile the network remains following major weather events.
